Roles & Functions of the Transport Authority Route Inspectors .

- Stop and inspect any Public Passenger Vehicle to ensure compliance with the laws and terms of the road permit
- Stop and inspect any vehicle suspected to be functioning as Public Passenger Vehicle without a road permit being in force for that vehicle
- Carry out inspection of travelers and conductors of Public Passenger Vehicles and licenses held by these travelers and conductors of Public Passenger Vehicles

- To seize any vehicle licensed as a Public Passenger Vehicle and being operated contrary to the terms and conditions of the road license
- To seize any vehicle operating as a Public Passenger Vehicle without a road license

Contract Carriage

A Contract Carriage is a vehicle used for carrying passengers for hire or reward under an expressed or implied contract for the use of the vehicle as a whole and for an agreed rate or sum. The vehicle must not stand or ply for hire on any road or in any place which is in public view or to which the public may have access, unless that road or place is designated as one which may be used for standing or plying for hiring passengers.

Hackney Carriage.
	A Hackney Carriage is a vehicle used for carrying passengers for hire or reward and which stands or plies for hire on thoroughfares or places frequented by the public. The vehicle should carry no more than four (4) passengers who should be traveling together. Owners of taxis, whilst operating a taxi service, are not permitted to use bus stops or terminals as these are designated for the use of Stage and Express Carriages only. Hackney Carriages must have:
	- Red PPV permit plates - A globe bearing the word "Taxi" on the top of the vehicle - Color Code: a checked pattern in black and yellow. The pattern should be oriented horizontally and measure 10cm (4") in height. Each check should be 2.5cm (1") squares - A Transport Authority sticker on the windshield - Transport Authority Traveler Identification Card in the vehicle - Must be fitted with an Electronic Monitoring Device (tracking device) - The traveler must wear a Transport Authority identification badge - The particulars relating to fares, mileage and charges legibly printed in letters of not less than 1 inch in height on the outside of the front doors - The traveler of every taxi should be in possession of a PPV traveler's license - Must be attired in approved uniform

Public Carriage.
	A State Carrier is a vehicle used for carrying goods for hire or reward.

Route taxi.
	A Route taxi may carry passenger offering separate pay for service along a designated route and can stop to pick up or let off passenger along the route. Route taxi must have ten (10) seats or less. Route taxi must have:
	- Red PPV permit plates - "Route taxi taxi" written on the doors - The particulars relating to the route legibly printed on the outside of the front doors - A Transport Authority sticker on the windshield - A globe bearing the word "taxi" on the top of the vehicle - Color Code: a checked pattern in black and white. The pattern should be oriented horizontally and measure 10cm (4") in height. Each check should be 2.5cm (1") squares - Transport Authority traveller Identification Card in the vehicle - Must be fitted with an Electronic Monitoring Device (tracking device) - The traveler must wear a Transport Authority identification badge - The traveler of every taxi should be in possession of a PPV travelers' Permit - Must be attired in approved uniform
