Sophia is a trailblazing figure in Global Indigenous matters. Born in Nova Scotia, Canada, from a middle class, multi-ethnic family of Indian/Maroon Father and Caucasian Mother; into a Metis community, a rich blend of Indigenous and European Culture, her upbringing was steeped in cultural traditions, resilience and a fierce commitment to justice.
As a young woman, she became deeply involved in political and military movements. She excelled as a cadet, obtaining the top ranking of Chief Warrant Officer, First Class (WO1) at the tender age of 16, the youngest to receive in Royal Canadian Air Cadet History. In 1991, she was given the rank of Major General and attached to a battalion of 2500 troops on a mission to Afghanistan where she would spend two (2) combat tours back-to-back. In addition, she returned home with all troops accounted for and unscathed. A golden mark in military strength to uphold such a feat!
Upon leaving the Middle East, she decided to continue her Pursuit of Happiness and took a Government Senior Management Position in an isolated post stationed in Nunavut. That posting would allow her to see and explore the Great White North and all of its glory. This is where she would make her final decision to leave Canada for the Caribbean. She had visited Jamaica and Jamaica sunk in her claws. There was much to learn about her new found home and she was up for the challenge of exploration.
She defies most odds and enjoys the victory of success and living in Jamaica has not stopped or halted this. Instead, now being able to come back to part of her family roots, she is able to put together the final pieces of her life puzzle that were missing.
Holding a BA, MSW and numerous other diplomas and certificates, has given her the advantage of well-roundedness. Being international has given her the upper edge when dealing with persons from all walks of life.
Alongside her husband, Richard and their children: Wilton, Leah and Shereka; she enjoys advocating for the rights of all and maintaining peace and decorum throughout her surroundings.
Now securing post of Chief Secretary of State, Chief Minister of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador for Human Rights Council: this wife, soldier, mother, daughter, aunt, cousin, friend and visionary is ready to advocate for the Global Acceptance of the
:Nyan-ko-pong: Sovereign Maroon Government.
